Updated Data: WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children)

The following datasets related to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are now current through fiscal year 2011. The data are available at the state level and go back to fiscal year 2005.

Updated Data: TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

The following dataset is now current through fiscal year 2011. The data are available at the state level.

  • TANF (Cash Assistance) Participation: the average number of individuals and families receiving cash assistance each month under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or its predecessor, Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC).

Updated Data: SNAP (Food Stamps)

The following datasets related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (i.e., SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) participation and benefits are now current through fiscal year 2011. The data are available at the state level and go back to fiscal year 2005.

Updated Data: School Meals

The following datasets related to school meal participation are now current through fiscal year 2011. The data are available at the state level and go back to fiscal year 2005.

Updated Data: State Children's Health Insurance Program Enrollments

The following dataset is now current through 2010:

Updated Data: Labor Force, Employment, and Unemployment

Three datasets in the Income Security & Labor category now reflect the latest annual data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and are current through 2011:

  • Employment: All persons working or temporarily absent from a job. Available at the state level.
  • Unemployment: People in the labor force who are laid off and/or actively seeking work. Available for states and counties.
  • Labor Force Participation: The population of non-institutional civilians who are working, looking for work, or intending to return to work after time off. Available at the state level.

New Data: Energy Consumption

There are two new indicators available in the Federal Priorities Database, both related to state-level energy consumption:

 

Updated Data: Electric Emissions

We've updated all of our electric emissions indicators to reflect the latest available published data. In addition, we renamed the datasets from State Emissions to Electric Emissions, a name that better reflects what the numbers stand for--emissions from electric power plants.

We've updated the following dataset, which is now current through 2010, the latest available information:

As with our poverty data, we've changed the data source from the U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey to the American Community Survey, which is more accurate at the state level.
