Gross federal tax collections. Business totals reflect taxes collected from businesses, including taxes on corporate income and unrelated business income from tax-exempt organizations. Collections from individuals include income and self-employment tax, FICA*, estate and trust income tax, estate tax, gift tax, and excise taxes. Total taxes reflect the sum of business and individual collections plus unemployment insurance taxes and railroad retirement taxes. *FICA portion of the individual total reflects both employer and employee contributions.Note: Washington, DC amounts are included with Maryland between 1998 and 2001. Data are available at the state level and go back to 1998.
